A Champion for all granite staters
Senator David Watters is serving his fourth term as the state Senator from District 4 that covers Barrington, Rollinsford, Somersworth and his hometown of Dover.
David has been active in community service since moving from Newmarket to Dover in 1984. He has been a selectman in Dover's Ward 1, chair of the Strafford County Democratic Committee, and a state representative for two terms. David was frequently heard on New Hampshire Public Radio as a consultant for Granite State Stories and the Immigration Project. His deep interest in preserving New Hampshire’s history, culture, arts, and the environment has lead to him serving eight years as a trustee of the New Hampshire Historical Society. He currently serves on the board of directors of the New Hampshire Humanities Council and as a commissioner on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.
Sen. Watters was educated at Dartmouth College and Brown University. Before retiring, he previously worked as an English professor at the University of New Hampshire since 1978, where he taught American literature, New England studies, and New Hampshire literature and culture.
David lives with his wife, Jan Alberghene, in Dover. Their son, Harper, is a Corps member at Houston Ballet.
